Type 2 Excludes

  • intestinal trichomoniasis (A07.8)

Clinical Information

  • Infections in birds and mammals produced by various species of trichomonas.
  • Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a parasite. It affects both women and men, though symptoms are more common in women. In women, symptoms include a green or yellow vaginal discharge, itching in or near the vagina, and discomfort during urination. Most men with trichomoniasis do not exhibit symptoms, but it can cause irritation inside the penis. Antibiotics can cure trichomoniasis. In men, the infection often resolves on its own without symptoms, but they can still infect or reinfect a partner until treated. Therefore, it is important for both partners to receive treatment simultaneously. Using latex condoms correctly significantly reduces, but does not completely eliminate, the risk of contracting or spreading trichomoniasis. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
